It wasn’t until he was already in medical school before Dr. Finklea decided to become a pediatrician. In his words, it was because “I realized what a joy it was to spend my time helping young ones and families be healthy and grow to fulfill their potential.” Fast forward to today, and Dr. Finklea has treated and continues to work with so many children and their families from across San Antonio as well as across Texas. He has become a hero to many parents and children who have grown up seeing him when they needed a doctor for a sick visit or needed advice at a yearly physical.
Always smiling, Dr. Finklea is eager to help, offer advice and go the proverbial extra mile for his patients.
Dr. Lee “Patrick” Finklea, Jr. is a leading board-certified pediatrician. He graduated class of 2002 from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. It is also where he played division one soccer and received the Outstanding Departmental Award in Philosophy.
It was a few years, and several adventures later before Dr. Finklea received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and later went on to do his pediatric residency training at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.
During this training, Dr. Lee Finklea received the Children’s Health Advocate of the Year award from the Medical-Legal Assistance for Families. He also volunteered at Camp Camp for disabled children and Camp Independence for children with diabetes.
Apart from being known as “Dr. Finklea the pediatrician” he is also an outdoorsy guy. He has had the immense pleasure of participating in the Mid Atlantic Med WARs (Medical Wilderness Adventure Race) in 2007 and 2008, where he received 2nd place both years. Later in 2009, Dr. Finklea served as director of the race.
Besides spending time outdoors, the good doctor is also a family man. Much of this time as of late is spent with his wife, Lindsey Finklea, MD. The duo keeps fit and busy keeping up with their two kids, Lillian and Stone.
The family also enjoys traveling, barbecues with the neighbors, camping and running. Speaking of which, Dr. Finklea also owns a 1974 FJ40 Toyota Landcruiser, which in his words, is “simple, reliable, with timeless toughness.” All qualities he finds admirable.
