dr. kelly basaldua
pediatrician in san antonio

Dr. Kelly Basaldua, co-owner, is an award-winning, board-certified pediatrician who teamed up with Dr. Lee “Patrick” Finklea, Jr to open Here We Grow Pediatrics in 2022.

She grew up in Arlington, Texas and earned her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Mary’s University in 2006. While at St. Mary’s, she was a member of the Division II Women’s Soccer Team and served as its team captain her junior year.

Dr. Basaldua then received her medical degree from UT Health Science Center of San Antonio in 2010 and went on to complete her pediatric residency at the UTHSCSA Department of Pediatrics in 2013. After completing her education and training, Dr. Basaldua spent time as a Pediatric Hospitalist and Sedationist at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio from 2013-2016. She also served as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics while at CHofSA and helped teach and train many pediatric residents.

Prior to opening Here We Grow Pediatrics, Dr. Basaldua spent 6 years starting her outpatient medicine career as a general pediatrician with Southwest Children’s Center from 2016-2022. Dr. Basaldua and her husband, Paul Basaldua, have been married since 2010. They have three beautiful children Julian, Raquel, and Marco. Dr. Basaldua is fluent in Spanish and welcomes patients from all over the state of Texas.

Dr. Basaldua brings years of pediatric knowledge and experience to the practice.  She believes that being a mother herself adds to her ability to counsel parents in an effective and empathetic manner. The way she practices medicine is what she calls “inclusive” as she listens to parental concerns and questions and ties them together with a parent’s inherent knowledge of their child. Medical decisions are made together as a unit, rather than simply “decided” for the family. Dr. Basaldua encourages families to ask questions and advocate for their child. You’ll frequently find her telling her families, “If I don’t give you the tools and confidence to care for your child at home once you leave my office, then I’m not doing my job.”

On a lighter note, Dr. Basaldua enjoys identifying with her patients by knowing all the Disney Princesses by name, who the popular YouTubers are, which video games are the best on the market, and every word to “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”. She also tries to keep up with both professional and collegiate sports in order to get the attention of her teenage patients. However, her most recent attempts at Fantasy Football have been quite futile. She will go out of her way to learn about her patient’s interests just so that they feel more comfortable in her office.

Dr. Basaldua will the first to say that her patients are her passion. “I take pride in knowing that I can give parents comfort and reassurance about their child’s health on a regular basis. I truly enjoy and love what I do every day”.
